Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems to program complex parts for CNC mills and integrated mill turning centers; specifically Mastercam and Vericut
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) systems to take solid model and customer drawings/ specifications to program parts, with attention to holding and rigidity; specifically SolidWorks
  • Select cutting tools and fixtures and perform the initial set up and first run of the job on CNC mills and/or lathes
  • Rotate between programmer and machinist; select cutting tools and fixtures and perform the initial set up and first run of the job on CNC mills 
  • Maintain high regard for quality of workmanship and compliance to customer requirements
  • Maintain cooperative attitude and willingness to learn
  • Take personal responsibility for quality and efficiency to minimize waste and rework and maximize machine capabilities; look to continually improve program efficiency, meet production deadlines and reduce costs
  • Maintain effective communication and interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Overtime and shift changes may be required as business needs demand
  • Comply with all quality requirements while continually maintaining and improving the effectiveness of MacKay's quality management system
  • Implement daily practices of Lean such as 5S, continuous improvement, and contribute to ongoing process efficiency
  • Support and participate in department goals as well as company goals

Job Requirements:

  • 5 or more year's prior experience as a Machinist performing set-up, operation and programming required; preferably in the medical or aerospace industry
  • 5 years of CAM programming experience with at least 1 year on 5 axis machines, preferably using Mastercam
  • SolidWorks CAD software experience preferred
  • One or two year machine technology degree/certificate preferred 
  • Working knowledge of machine capabilities, including cut and horsepower data, as well as material properties
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, willingness to also function as a machinist for continual improvement and to stay current with machining skills
  • Willingness and ability to build great relationships with other Machinists and regularly work with them for feedback and continual improvement 
  • Intermediate computer navigation and software skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, ERP & Timekeeping software systems

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, requirements and specifications. Ability to write reports and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and participate in discussions with groups of peers.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as tolerance, fractions, and other measurements.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
